It's a brand new year, yet one month of it has already faded away.
Winter continues to inhabit the Jersey shore despite it being warmer and less snowy than expected. And while nature remains dormant, awaiting the rejuvenation spring will bring, we here at Vanity Fare have been kept very busy. Christmas and New Years and Valentine's Day manifest a plethora of newly engaged couples, with future brides that are eager to sink their teeth into planning their weddings. For most, and logically so, their first stop in that long journey is deciding which banquet hall will be best in accommodating their vision of the perfect wedding and reception.

It is very important for couples to closely examine each venue's pricing and package options.
Are there things you will need for your wedding that need to be added-on or are they included? For instance, are things such as table linens, napkins, and chair covers included in the price or will you need to pay extra for them? See if the facility offers a food tasting, and if so be sure to attend it. While there, don't just examine the food. Take notice of the staff; these will probably be many of the same people working your wedding. Do they anticipate your needs or do you find you have to go to them for assistance? And after talking with the booking manager, be sure to ask if you can take home a copy of their package options and a pricing sheet. In tough economic times, you want to be sure your money is going to be well spent.

We are so excited for the up coming Wedding season. We kicked of the New Year with a Food tasting event this past Saturday. I have to say this is one of the best events Vanity Fare could offer to all of the potential brides still looking for a facility to hold the wedding of their dreams. Giving you a change to try the food, as well as giving you a chance to experience the facility as if you where in your own personal party. We had so many recently engaged couples looking for that one place to make their wedding dreams come to life. From the amazing food they got to taste, to the great managers they got to speak to. The day was truly amazing.

We also would like to thank the vendors that also came and shared apart in such a great experience.

Food Tasting Event - Weddings & Banquets

The Warmth Amidst The Cold

As we move forward into the chilly January months and the bright, cheerful colors of Christmas are shelved away until next year, we witness the appearance of blankets of snow covering the earth around us. After shoveling out the cars and challenging a neighbor or two to an innocent snowball fight, one retreats indoors to snuggle by the fireside with a cup of hot cocoa, maybe to watch a favorite movie or become lost in a good book, all while wrapped in a warm blanket. It is very simple to create these feelings, those of comfort and intimacy, amongst the high-intensity vibes of a wedding reception. Though the liquor is running freely and tensions are running high, these ideas might be visually calming enough to ease your nerves.

Imagine the elegant look of sheer, iridescent fabric draped over a tablecloth of white, mimicking freshly-fallen snow glistening in the sunlight. Wedding Helping Hands :)

A wedding is one of the few occasions today that people arrive dressed to the nines. Men reach for that suit collecting dust in the corner of their closet. Ladies rush to department stores to purchase a new dress, because God forbid they re-purpose one of the ten dresses they already own. And when they arrive after the arts of shaving and cosmetology have been utilized, any outsider might mistake them for a famed actor traveling the red carpet at the Oscars. But during the course of such events, especially those where the alcohol is plenty, things…happen. A button falls off a jacket; a fingernail chips; contact lenses become dry; a remedy for fresh breath is needed. How is one to cope when such things happen within a picture-perfect scene?

Here at Vanity Fare, we have seen these moments of crisis triumphed time and again with the help of these three words: The Vanity Basket. Placed in each bathroom courtesy of the newlyweds, these baskets hold the key to solving a plethora of dilemmas that may occur to you. Both baskets tend to share common elements: bandaids, contact solution, a small tin of breath mints, one-time-use toothbrushes, dental floss, emery boards, miniature packs of tissues, lip balm, hand lotion, and a variety of over-the-counter medicines (especially ones to cure the headache one might incur from the DJ's speakers). Then, more gender specific elements are added such as a can of hairspray and feminine hygiene products for the ladies' room and a small container of pomade for the gentlemen's. A box of condoms may also be purchased and split between the two baskets, because when the moment strikes, one should always be prepared to be safe. As a final touch, one bride and groom mounted these poems into picture frames and placed them along side their vanity basket displays, helping to make their guests feel a little more special:

So glad you are here to share in our day!
But should something happen to go astray,
Please help yourself to the contents within:
Hairspray, hand lotion, and even asprin!
Use only what's needed and leave the rest;
It may also be useful to another guest.
So repair the damage that may have been done,

Being creatures of habit who don't generally like change, we become very happily and comfortably set in our ways. Some individuals are quirky and some are ridiculous, while others prefer an outspoken personality. However, there come certain times (such as weddings, funerals, sweet sixteens, anniversary dinners, etc.) when we have to tone ourselves down a bit and refer back to the prim and proper manners we were taught as children. Unfortunately, most individuals attend so few formal events today that it becomes different to remember all the manners associated with them. Therefore, in an attempt remind you (and make our own lives a little easier), we here at Vanity Fare Caterers have decided to provide you with a small guide on some proper dinner etiquette. We hope this will help you to de-mystify our table settings while helping us to better serve you during your celebration.

As if attending a movie theater or a broadway play, place your cell phone on vibrate or silent, or simply turn it off. You have been invited to witness a huge celebration in this individual's life; checking your e-mail or your Facebook news feed can wait a few hours.
After the bridal party or guest of honor has entered the room, and following the dances and toasts, you should place your napkin on your lap, folded lengthwise. It should remain on your lap for the entire duration of the meal. Should you need to leave the table, loosely fold (not crumple) your napkin and place it on either side of your place setting. It should never be left on your chair.
With regards to your table setting, always remember this rule: eat to your left, drin to your right. This is to say, any food dish to the left is yours (typically a bread plate & butter knife) and any glass to the right is yours.
For utensils: work from the outside in. Most banquet halls will provide you one utensil for each course to be served that evening. When the course has been consumed, the utensil will be removed with the plate.
If you have food preferences (such as vegetarianism) or food allergies, you should alert the host of the evening prior to the event. This helps the kitchen staff be better prepared to accommodate your needs.
When served soup as a course, it is proper to scoop away from you and sip (not slurp) the soup.
You may choose to rest your forearms, but keep your elbows off the table.
Often times, table side wine service is paid for by the host(s) of the evening. Do not flip the glass over to signal you do not want any. Simply hover your hand over the empty glass.
Never speak with food in your mouth. Never chew food with an open mouth. And never burp. The latter has been rated as one of the most offensive mannerisms in formal dining.
Two sets of salt and pepper shakers are usually placed on every table. Always pass shaker sets together, even if only requested to pass one. By doing this, neither shaker is ever left orphaned on the table.
The waiting staff will serve each course from the left, removing finished courses from the right. To signal that you are finished with a course, simply rest your fork and knife next to each other on a ten-and-five o'clock angle. Never place a used utensil back on the table; alternatively, rest it on the edge of your plate. And always say please and thank you when speaking to the staff.
Upon finishing your main course, you should absolutely get up and dance. Not only does this give you the opportunity to burn off some of the calories you've consumed all day long, but it gives the waiting staff the opportunity to more rapidly and efficiently clean your table of any un-neccessary dinner- and glassware.

Winter Weddings Sparkle

Autumn Weddings

The cooler crisper air of autumn brings in a new mood into the banquet halls at Vanity Fare Caterers. The fall newlyweds tend to have more of a natural take on their weddings and bring in autumn atmosphere. The fall decorations are bold and are memorable to all who see them. The colors have been bold; reds, yellows, orange, rust, brown, green, black, brown and all the shades in between. Not only are there just fall decorations, leaves, colors, centerpieces, but there has been Halloween décor as well; including but not limited to the linen color choices, tombstone seating cards, skeleton cake toppers, and candy bars. An abundance of candy and carmel apples have been coming in and out of the doors at Vanity Fare warming and creating smiles to the many guests who have been indulging on these sweet treats.

Another treat the newlyweds have been bringing into Vanity Fare for their guests are photo booths. The photo booths create a fun time for all guests and allow everyone to become involved. The guests take some memorable photos to not only take home for themselves but also, make a scrapbook filled of pictures and loving notes and best wishes for the newlyweds. This is a great way to show the bride and groom that you had fun at their wedding and give them something special that was created and designed by those who visited throughout the night of their dreams.
